Tampa Yachts to build 17 patrol craft

United States: Tampa Yacht Manufacturing was recently awarded a contract with an unnamed foreign government for 17 high-speed, Tempest 35-SPC, SWAT patrol craft.

The fully outfitted 35-SPC is a purpose-built craft for special weapons and tactics (SWAT) teams.

Designed for coastal and near shore operations in varying sea and weather conditions, the fully enclosed 35-SPC is tailor-made for multi-mission operations, including identification, interception, and interdiction of suspicious vessels entering a nation's territorial waters.

The 35-SPC is also ideal for search and rescue, port security, police action and the pursuit of suspect vessels for boarding and arresting violators and seizing criminal vessels and contraband.

The 35-SPC is powered by a pair of Yanmar 6LPTA-STP2, 235kW inboard diesel engines mounted directly to a pair of UltraJet 305 waterjets. The Yanmar-UltraJet propulsion package is capable of powering the 35 SPC to a maximum speed of 40 knots (WOT) with a minimum sustained cruising speed of 35 knots.

The economical Yanmar diesels and efficient UltraJet waterjets give the 35 SPC a minimum range of 200 nautical miles at wide open throttle and a cruising range of more than 300 nautical miles.

The main deck and forward cockpit are watertight and self-bailing and all the fittings on the main deck are flush-mounted to avert tripping.

The craft features a retractable bow ramp for operational deployment of the ten-man surge troop. Additional hatches in cabin allow for ventilation and escape. There is over 1.8 metres of standing headroom in the cabin, which features ammunition and weapons storage lockers and hinged swing away seating to accommodate two emergency stretchers.
