Swede Ship Marine delivers rescue craft

Swede Ship Marine of Sweden has delivered a high-speed, multi-role rescue craft to the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (NSSR).

'Odin' was built under survey to Det Norske Veritas and equipped with the latest search technology and extensive rescue equipment, including fire-fighting capabilities. The vessel features fully redundant propulsion, manoeuvring, navigation and communications systems.

With an overall length of 24.7 metres on a beam of seven metres, the vessel has a draught of 1.45 metres, a maximum speed of 29 knots and a bollard pull of 22.5 tonnes.

Propulsion is achieved by Helseth controllable pitch propellers driven by twin MTU 16V2000 M72 main engines via ZF 4600 NRV reduction gears.

Auxiliary power is supplied by twin Nogva-Deere 4045TFM50, 52kW generator sets.

'Odin's' wheelhouse is elastically mounted to the hull, helping it to achieve a very quiet 59dB(A) at 25 knots. The wheelhouse is outfitted with three single cabins, a fully functional galley, shower and WC as well as a workshop with extensive hand tools and machinery for drilling, grinding and welding and an electrics test facility and medical equipment including an ambulance treatment bench, oxygen, advanced first aid equipment and a defibrillator (heart starter).

External equipment includes a 2,000 litres per minute (at 10bar) fire monitor as well as salvage pumps for petrol and other liquids and compressors and other equipment to facilitate diving.

'Odin' is also outfitted with a rescue RIB and hydraulic davit.
