A Royal Australian Navy diver lost a hand and part of a leg in a shark attack in Sydney Harbour yesterday morning (February 11).
According to the Australian Associated Press, 31-year-old Paul Degelder was attacked just before 7am near Garden Island Naval Base, at Wolloomooloo Bay, in Sydney's inner east.
Able Seaman Degelder was rushed to the hospital where he had surgery. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
The Navy has confirmed that Degelder was taking part in Exercise Kondari, a trial run of new technologies designed to protect Australian ports, naval bases and ships against terrorist attacks.
