Baird Maritime

Fifty people intended to be the crew of Russia's newest multi-purpose nuclear submarine have arrived in Severodvinsk to commence training.

There are a total of six submarines in the Yasen-class of submarines, the first of which was launched only several months ago. The keel of the second Project 855 submarine was laid in July.

The technology and design of Project 855 submarines are based on the older Akula-class submarines, however these new submarines will have more firepower.

The submarine's armament includes 24 cruise missiles and eight torpedo tubes, along with mines and anti-ship missiles. The vessel is also equipped with a spherical sonar.
