From Baird Maritime:

As an avid reader of and admirer of NormanFriedman's works, your reviewer was a little taken back by the sub-title ofthis book. Having read further and learnt that the Cold War was the Third WorldWar he was able to start digesting this most interesting book.

The author describes the intensive focus onelectronics in modern command and control of naval operations. He makes quiteclear the extent of the reliance of modern navies on digitising.

This reliance, this reviewer believes, hastended to become overdone. Having discussed the subject with the commandingofficers of a number of very sophisticated American warships, he knows that itworries them too. There is still a tendency to prefer to rely on the "Mark Ieyeball"!

Obviously, the speed and accuracy ofinformation available to commanders is vital but it should always be rememberedthat all those electronics are just tools. The human factor is still vastlymore important.
