US shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has expanded its unmanned systems manufacturing campus in Pocasset, Massachusetts, by 25 per cent, adding 10,000 square feet (929 square metres) to the existing 40,000-square-foot (3,716-square-metre) facility.
The expansion increases production capacity for autonomous maritime platforms.
The site will build and integrate unmanned underwater vehicles and unmanned surface vessels, including small undersea craft currently being produced for the US Navy under an option-year contract awarded in July.
The additional space will also support the integration of autonomous control software, as well as simulation and modelling capabilities across multiple operational domains.
US Representative Bill Keating remarked that the facility's growth reflects increased investment in maritime technology while supporting employment and economic activity in Massachusetts.
HII said it currently employs approximately 300 people at the Pocasset site and has added 50 employees so far in 2026. The company also works with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on autonomous underwater engineering research and development.
