The Turkish Navy will invest the equivalent of US$370 million for the construction of new jetties as well as other infrastructure upgrades at Aksaz Naval Base on Turkey's Aegean Sea coast.
The new jetties will be capable of accommodating large naval ships such as the locally built helicopter carrier TCG Anadolu.
The other infrastructure upgrades will encompass the construction of facilities that will support the navy's new submarines fitted with air-independent propulsion (AIP).
Rear Admiral Tayfun Öznel, Head of the Engineering Department of the navy's Logistics Directorate, expects that the tender for the infrastructure upgrades will be issued by the Ministry of National Defence before the end of this year.
The navy is also reportedly studying the feasibility of putting up new command and logistical facilities at Didim, a municipality also located along the country's Aegean Sea coast. These facilities will support the operation of the navy's fleet of locally built unmanned surface vehicles.
