TKMS and EDGE Group have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the joint development of underwater surveillance and protection capabilities, the companies said.
The agreement forms part of a wider initiative between the German Government and the UAE aimed at closer defence and security cooperation.
Under the pact, the two companies intend to evaluate opportunities for establishing an integrated, multi-system approach to underwater security.
They said combining multiple platforms and sensor systems could provide a more comprehensive situational picture to address maritime threats.
The partners plan to examine how TKMS's platform capabilities could be combined with EDGE's systems expertise to contribute to surveillance and protection solutions.
The companies said the initiative comes amid heightened geopolitical security challenges that have increased demand for naval assets to maintain maritime security and support the uninterrupted flow of commercial shipping.
EDGE managing director and chief executive officer Hamad Al Marar said: “The security of the maritime domain is fundamental to the UAE's national and economic resilience, and the demands placed on it are growing.”
TKMS chief executive officer Oliver Burkhard welcomed the bilateral initiative, saying the collaboration would help strengthen long-term underwater surveillance and defence capabilities amid current security conditions.
