New partnership to develop vessels for European defence customers

Baird Maritime

Greece's Skaramangas Shipyards and UK-based Subsea Craft (SSC) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the establishment of a partnership wherein Skaramangas Shipyards will manufacture and maintain SSC's portfolio of maritime security vessels.

Under the MOU, Skaramangas Shipyards and SSC will also develop vessels for use by the Hellenic Navy as well as other defence operators throughout Europe. Among the vessels to be developed are SSC's VICTA series of submersible diver delivery craft and the company's MARS unmanned surface vehicles (USVs).

The partners will also establish an innovation hub focused on AI integration development and testing of both manned and unmanned systems. This will ensure Greek engineers will gain the necessary expertise in operating and maintaining these technologies for maritime applications.

The innovation hub, which will be located within Greece, will also be used as a venue for collaboration with partner countries with the objective of enhancing security in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean seas.
