German submarine manufacturer Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has signed a ten-year service contract valued at more than €800 million to provide comprehensive modernisation and support for the German Navy's six Type 212A submarines. The contract was signed with Germany's federal office for military procurement (BAAINBw) in Koblenz.

The contract provides for the modernisation of core systems on board the submarines, with a particular focus on the navigation and command and weapons control systems on the four older boats of the first batch. The stated objective is to secure the technological "superiority" of the German submarine fleet.

Oliver Burkhard, CEO of TKMS, stated that the service contract strengthens the company's cooperation with the German Navy in the area of maintenance.

TKMS noted that as of May 2025, its order backlog stood at a record level of €18 billion. Recent orders include four Type 212CD submarines for Germany and two Type 218SG submarines for Singapore.
