The UK Ministry of Defence awarded TKMS Atlas UK a contract to develop and supply the next generation countermeasure (NGCM) system for the Royal Navy submarine fleet.
As a key element of the Royal Navy's underwater defensive aids suite programme, the system aims to address underwater threats for current and future submarine platforms.
TKMS Atlas UK will collaborate with Babcock International Group, with the defence company providing launcher technology, platform integration on existing platforms, and through-life support.
Both companies entered the programme following more than three years of joint research and development prior to the contract award.
Financial details were withheld after the involved parties agreed not to disclose the contract value.
TKMS Atlas UK said that work on the programme will draw upon its torpedo countermeasure research capabilities alongside its expertise in hydro-acoustics, sonar systems, underwater communications, sensor engineering, and systems integration.
It added that future work will focus on delivery, integration, and progressive capability enhancements across the operational lifecycle of the submarine platforms.
