ADSB unveils new OPV series

Baird Maritime

Edge Group subsidiary Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) has unveiled Rabdan, the first in a new class of 42-metre offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), at the Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

The OPV, which began construction in October 2024, was designed for high-speed operations and equipped to perform a range of territorial and coastal offshore duties, including providing support to military operations, search and rescue, area surveillance, and patrol.

Rabdan accommodates 30 passengers and crew, and offers a speed at half load of more than 30 knots and a range of 1,500 nautical miles at 14 knots.

Weaponry comprises multiple combat and C4I systems, including long-range anti-ship missile, decoy launching, and both 12.7mm and 30mm guns.

To ensure the ship structure is ready for all expected service loads, the main deck and structural members below deck were constructed of class-approved marine-grade steel, while the superstructure of welded marine-grade aluminium alloy is connected to the steel hull by means of a bimetal joint to avoid electrolytic corrosion.
