The US Navy recently began operating a newly acquired personnel boat as a ceremonial barge for use primarily by the Chief of Naval Operations and other senior officials.
Forged to Fight was originally built in 1975 by Potomac Riverboat Company. Prior to her acquisition by the navy in November last year, the 65-foot (20-metre) vessel was being operated by San Diego-based yacht rental company Legacy Cruises and Events, under which she sailed as Sirara.
The vessel's main area of operations as a ceremonial barge is the Potomac River near the Washington Navy Yard.
The vessel will be used only for activities such as official navy or Defense Department ceremonies and welcoming US and foreign dignitaries.
Forged to Fight has since replaced Chesapeake, which was deemed by the navy as unfit to continue operating as a ceremonial barge due to her condition and the increasing cost of repair, a spokesperson for the service told USNI News.
During her previous operation as Sirara, the vessel was used to host private events in San Diego Bay.
Features include a climate-controlled lounge, a top deck offering 360-degree views, a state-of-the-art multimedia system, a full bar, two restrooms, LED lighting, and over 1,500 square feet (140 square metres) of contemporary event space over two decks.
