A consortium consisting of Karstensens Shipyard in Skagen, Hvide Sande Shipyard in Hvide Sande and OSK Design has formed to compete for support vessel orders from the Danish Navy.
The consortium's stated goal is to design and build vessels that can perform a wide range of support tasks for the navy, including marine environmental preparedness, surface surveillance, diving tasks, transport, information gathering and minelaying.
"The ships are not designed as combat ships, but will be able to function as mother ships for drones and be equipped with a remote-controlled heavy machine gun for self-defense and warning shots," said OSK.
The consortium said it is working with two concepts, designed to operate throughout the kingdom, including Greenland.
The steel hulls of the ships would be built at a Danish-owned shipyard in Poland, after which the ships would be equipped in Hvide Sande and Skagen.
"If a contract is signed before the summer of 2025, the first naval support ship could be ready for deployment in 2027," said OSK.
