Kvichak Marine Industries has recently delivered a response vessel to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD).
Part of Kvichak's "Response Boat Medium" (RB-M C) series, the 13.4-metre x 4.2-metre x 0.9-metre vessel is the sistership of the highly successful RB-M for the United States Coast Guard.
The vessel has been adapted to meet the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) detection mission requirements of the LASD. Further, a roof-mounted RS-700 gamma/neutron radiation detection system from RSI enables the vessel to quickly and accurately measure and locate natural and man-made radioactive elements.
Designed by United Kingdom-based Camarc Design, the all-aluminium vessel is powered by twin Detroit Diesel 60 series engines. Each engine is rated for 615kW and powers Rolls-Royce KaMeWa FF375S water jets via Twin Disc MG5114SC transmissions.
According to Kvichak, this combination allows for "excellent manoeuvrability and a top speed exceeding 42 knots."
Kvichak has already delivered three RB-M C's to the New York Police Department Harbour Unit and one to the Seattle Police Department Harbour Unit.
