A fire broke out on the Ro-Pax vessel Blue Carrier 2 on September 25 at 08:57, while the ship was at sea north of Mykonos in Greece.
In a statement, ferry operator Attica Group said the ship's crew immediately activated prescribed safety procedures in an attempt to extinguish the fire using the vessel's own means, and the competent authorities were informed.
An organised evacuation of the ship was carried out using its own means, the company said. There were 28 crew members and one passenger truck driver on board, all of whom were reported to be in good health.
Attica added that specialised companies had been assigned to take all necessary action regarding environmental protection and management of the ship's condition, working in cooperation with the competent authorities.
The Hellenic Coast Guard said at least five of its vessels and two firefighting speedboats assisted in the operation.
Blue Carrier 2 operates under Blue Star Ferries, a subsidiary of Attica Group. It is a 1997-built vessel with a gross tonnage of 23,986, measuring 162.5 metres in length, and was carrying 166 lorries and 29 cars at the time of the incident.
