Six people including three small children were killed while three other individuals have been reported missing after a small passenger boat capsized in Zambales province in the northern Philippines on Thursday, August 27.
The unnamed banca-type motorised outrigger boat was transiting Mapanuepe Lake in Zambales' San Marcelino municipality when it capsized.
Only four people who were on the ill-fated boat have been rescued as of Friday, August 28.
The survivors said the boat encountered strong winds and large waves as it was underway between two villages.
The Philippine Coast Guard and partner agencies have been patrolling the area where the incident occurred to assess whether an underwater search and rescue operation can be undertaken.
The coast guard said it will conduct an investigation to identify the probable causes of the capsizing.
The incident occurred as Zambales and nearby provinces were experiencing heavy monsoon rains.
