Six passengers suffered injuries after a tour boat crashed into some concrete blocks just off Zakynthos Island in Greece in the early evening (local time) of Monday, August 17.
The accident occurred as the vessel was returning to the Port of Agios Nikolaos in Crete with 24 passengers and two crewmembers on board.
The vessel was able to reach Agios Nikolaos under her own power. The Hellenic Coast Guard said that, upon the vessel's arrival, two of the injured passengers were brought to hospital via ambulance while the remaining four individuals secured their own means of transport to seek treatment.
Five of the injured individuals have since been discharged from hospital while the sixth, identified as a 60-year-old Greek national, remains under observation.
The coast guard said the tour boat's captain has been arrested and charged with negligence resulting in physical injury while the vessel has been prohibited from sailing pending the submission of a certificate of seaworthiness by the relevant class society.
The coast guard has assured that no pollution was observed as a result of the mishap.
