A Ro-Ro vessel operated by Danish shipping company DFDS ran aground off the city of Terneuzen in the southwestern Netherlands on Friday, August 7.
The Danish-flagged Primula Seaways was underway near Terneuzen's western outer port en route to Ghent when her bow accidentally struck a river bank at around 10:25 local time on Friday.
A number of responding vessels arrived in the area to render assistance. These included tugs, a port tender, and a patrol boat dispatched by the Rijkswaterstaat waterway management authority.
The stranded Primula Seaways was successfully refloated with tug assistance around two hours later and resumed sailing under her own power. The vessel arrived in Ghent on Saturday, August 8.
Traffic in nearby shipping lanes was only temporarily disrupted by the accident and there have been no reports of pollution or injuries resulting from the mishap.
An initial investigation revealed that the grounding may have been caused by an onboard power blackout.
