One person suffered injuries after a yacht collided with a fishing vessel near the Gulf of Kechries in the Corinth Region of southern Greece on Saturday, September 5.
The Hellenic Coast Guard said the incident between the unnamed Malta-registered yacht and a fishing vessel crewed by two Greek nationals occurred on Saturday evening (local time).
The yacht’s crew deployed a tender and took the two Greek fishermen on board following the collision.
One fisherman was reportedly unconscious when he was brought to hospital later that evening. The nature and extent of his injuries remain unknown.
Local authorities are looking into reports that the fishing vessel had been underway with its running lights switched off when it was struck by the yacht.
The yacht’s crew are also being investigated to determine whether proper watch procedures were being implemented in the moments leading to the collision.
Public prosecutors have meanwhile ordered the arrest of the yacht’s Greek captain in connection with the incident.
The coast guard said the yacht had six passengers and 11 crewmembers when the collision occurred.
