One person was killed as a result of a cargo handling accident at the Port of Baltimore in Maryland on Monday, August 3.
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police said the accident occurred at around 09:00 local time on Monday when a worker was struck by on-site equipment at Baltimore's Dundalk Marine Terminal.
MDTA Police officers arrived at the scene and discovered a male victim. Officers then attempted life-saving measures on the victim, who was later transported to a local hospital.
Tragically, the individual, who has been identified as 53-year-old David Deon Smith, was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.
The MDTA Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have begun conducting active and open investigations into the accident.
Local media reported that a crane boom had fallen onto the victim during regular operations at the terminal.
This was the first work-related incident resulting in death to occur at the Port of Baltimore in 20 years.
