Personnel aboard an Indian Navy warship rendered assistance to the crew of a commercial vessel after it suffered an onboard fire while underway in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday, June 29.
The Talwar-class stealth frigate INS Tabar was operating in the area as part of a scheduled deployment when her crew received a distress call from the Palau-registered product tanker Yi Cheng 6 just minutes after a blaze ignited in the latter's engine room.
The tanker then suffered a total power loss as the fire continued to rage on board.
Tabar transferred 13 of her sailors along with firefighting equipment to Yi Cheng 6 via a small boat and a helicopter. The navy personnel then worked with the tanker's crew to extinguish the blaze.
The navy has assured that the fire on Yi Cheng 6 has been brought under control.
The tanker had earlier left Kandla in India and was en route to Shinas Port in Oman when the accident occurred.
