A Good Samaritan successfully rescued all four occupants of a small boat after it overturned while transiting a river in York County in eastern Virginia on Saturday, September 12.
Local agency Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue (AVFR) reported that at approximately 17:29 local time on Saturday, AVFR crews responded to a reported boater emergency on the York River near the Coast Guard Training Center Pier in Yorktown.
While the AVFR personnel were responding, the crew of a civilian vessel located and recovered four people from an overturned 17-foot (five-metre) Bayliner boat and safely transported them to shore. No injuries have been reported.
Boat crews from AVFR and the York County Fire Department meanwhile worked together to remove floating debris and mitigate hazards to navigation in the area.
The cause of the capsizing has not been disclosed and no details have been provided on weather conditions in the area at the time of the mishap.
