Baird Maritime

Emergency services personnel successfully rescued all five crewmembers of a fishing vessel after it ran aground and suffered water ingress off the coast of Trøndelag county in central Norway on Monday, January 6.

The incident occurred on the evening (local time) of Monday when the unidentified vessel struck a submerged rock near the Storfosna island in the western portion of Trøndelag’s Ørland Municipality.

The vessel began to list and take on water shortly afterwards, prompting the crew to send out a distress call at around 19:10. The distress call was received by the Norwegian Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, which duly ordered a rescue boat and a helicopter to proceed to the area to render assistance.

The helicopter arrived at the scene by 19:55 and safely evacuated all five crewmembers and transported them to Ørland, where they were met by waiting police and medical personnel. No injuries have been reported.

The exact circumstances that led to the grounding remain unclear.
