Malaysia's New Straits Times reports that five people were killed after a boat capsized near the town of Port Klang in the Malaysian state of Selangor on Friday, June 6.
The incident occurred at around 16:30 local time on Friday when the unnamed boat carrying six people capsized less than one nautical mile west of Tanjung Harapan in Port Klang.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and other local partners conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation and found one survivor and the bodies of the 50-year-old captain, a 29-year-old male and a three-year-old child during the first few hours following the capsizing.
The remains of the last two missing passengers, identified as the three-year-old child's parents, were finally recovered from those same waters on the morning of Sunday, June 8. The MMEA called off the SAR effort immediately afterwards.
The capsized boat has since been towed to the MMEA jetty in Selangor.
A preliminary probe has suggested that the boat lost control just as it was being overcome by large waves, causing it to capsize.
A relative of one of the deceased victims told officials that the boat had just completed undergoing repairs and was out on the water for a series of sea trials when the incident occurred.
