Two people suffered injuries as a result of a vessel grounding incident that occurred in British Columbia, Canada, on Sunday, August 3.

Local authorities first learned of the mishap at around 11:30 local time on Sunday when the joint rescue coordination centre in Victoria was informed that the tour boat Harbour Princess had become stranded after it struck a rock near Point Atkinson in West Vancouver.

A Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft, a Vancouver Police Department boat, and a number of Good Samaritan vessels diverted to the area shortly after the mayday call was issued.

A BC Emergency Health Services spokesperson told local media that one patient has been brought to hospital but assured that the individual is in stable condition. The extent of the other individual's injuries is unknown.

Harbour Princess eventually sailed to Vancouver's Coal Harbour under her own power with the Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft and other vessels providing escort. No onboard flooding was reported.
