Fourteen people were safely rescued after a dive tour boat suffered water ingress in the Red Sea off the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh on Sunday, April 20.
Initial reports stated that the dive tour boat Fire Bird struck some hard coral reefs in Sharm El Sheikh's Nabq area on Sunday, thus resulting in the water ingress.
The boat was travelling from Hurghada to Dahab when the incident occurred.
Local rescue teams brought all 14 of the vessel's occupants to safety. This number included seven crewmembers and seven divers, five of whom were foreign nationals.
The rescued individuals were temporarily housed in various hotels in Sharm El Sheikh as local authorities completed the necessary official procedures.
An investigation has since been launched to identify the probable causes of the incident, which occurred less than a month after a tourist submarine sank in those same waters.
The submarine involved in the March 27 incident was carrying 44 passengers, who were all Russian nationals as confirmed by the Russian Consulate in Hurghada. That earlier incident left six people dead and 19 others with varying degrees of injury.
