The Bremerton Fire Department (BFD) in Washington State has placed an order for a new response boat to be built by Safe Boats International also located in Bremerton.
The new vessel will be a custom-built 33-foot (10-metre) full cabin fireboat equipped with a fire pump, mounted aft to meet ISO standards.
Purpose-built to meet Bremerton Fire Department’s mission-specific requirements, the boat will feature a drop bow for shore access, twin Mercury 400hp (300kW) outboard engines, and the speed and manoeuvrability necessary for rapid response within Puget Sound.
The contract was awarded to Safe Boats through a competitive bid process funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's port security grant program.
Safe Boats CEO Richard Schwarz said that, for the project, Safe Boats engineered, "a new configuration that not only met the spec but will now become a part of [the company's] growing product lineup as a standard offering."
Safe Boats said the vessel is currently in production and will be put into service with the BFD early next year.
