New fireboat delivered to Massachusetts Port Authority

Baird Maritime

Metal Shark Boats of Jeanerette, Louisiana, recently handed over a new firefighting boat to Massport Fire-Rescue, the emergency response division of the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport).

Marine 32 measures 43 by 12 feet (13 by 3.6 metres) and is built for operation in both inshore and offshore waters. The boat features a proven Metal Shark hull design that has been engineered and built to precise tolerances.

To ensure long service life, the vessel's hull, deck, and superstructure are composed entirely of heavy, precision-welded plates of corrosion-resistant aluminium. Also, thanks to its wide beam, pronounced reverse chines, and ample heft, the boat can remain highly stable while underway, at rest, or pumping water.

The vessel features a pilothouse with Metal Shark's patented "pillarless glass," which significantly reduces blind spots compared to earlier fireboats with traditional pilothouse layouts featuring smaller, framed windows. A reversed-raked windshield with prominent brow shade reduces heat load and glare.

Power for the boat is provided by two Cummins QSB6.7 diesel inboards driving Hamilton waterjets. A CBRNE crew protection system is also fitted.
