STX Finland lays cruise ship keel

Approximately nine months after the keel laying of TUI Cruises' cruise ship new building 'Mein Schiff 3', TUI Cruises and STX Finland has laid the keel of the sister vessel 'Mein Schiff 4' in late-February.

Representatives of the shipyard, the future shipowner, the project manager, and classification society Det Norske Veritas all attended the ceremony

According to STX, the 'Mein Schiff 3' and 'Mein Schiff 4' will utilise innovative technology to support environmentally-friendly ship operation, Each vessel will consume around 30 per cent less energy compared to cruise ships of similar sizes through the use of a combined exhaust gas treatment system to reduce emissions.

The two new well-being ships will measure 294 metres in length, with a breadth of 36 metres and an approximate gross tonnage of 99,500GRT. Over 1,250 cabins with 2,500 beds will be spread over 15 decks.
