Stena founder Sten Allan Olsson has died. He was 96. Throughout the 20th century, the Swedish shipowner established Stena Line into one of the world's largest ferry companies.
Born in 1916 near Gothenburg, Sweden, Mr Olsson began his foray into passenger ferries in the 1960s. The Stena group, known today as the Stena Sphere, spans a number of subsidiaries, from Stena Line to vessel and materials recycling business Stena Metall, Stena Drilling to Stena Bulk, and from Concordia Maritime to property company Stena Fastigheter.
Mr Olsson is survived by his children Madeleine, Dan, Stefan and Christofer, whom he transferred ownership of the Stena Sphere in the mid-1990s.
