Fred Olsen Express and Balearia to increase capacity between Spain and the Canary Islands

Alan Bosworth

Fred. Olsen Express and Baleària will increase service on their route between Huelva and the Canary Islands by adding a fourth weekly departure during the high-demand summer period.

The additional sailing will operate from July 15 to September 18, 2025, increasing the total number of weekly round trips between the Spanish mainland and the Canary Islands from three to four. This adjustment is intended to accommodate heightened passenger and freight demand during the summer months.

The route is operated by two vessels: the Sicilia, which can carry up to 1,000 passengers and 400 vehicles, and the Marie Curie, which has a capacity of over 800 passengers and 600 vehicles.

Departures from Huelva will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Services will call at both Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, except for the Wednesday sailing, which will connect only with Tenerife. From the Canary Islands, there will be sailings on Sundays and Mondays, with two additional departures from Tenerife on Thursdays.

According to both companies, the expanded summer schedule follows a similar operational increase implemented by the ferry operators in previous years to manage seasonal surges in both passenger and freight traffic between the archipelago and the Spanish mainland.
