Destination Gotland summer passenger numbers remain stable

Alan Bosworth

Swedish ferry operator Destination Gotland has reported that travel between the island of Gotland and the mainland remained stable during June and July, with a total of approximately 674,000 people travelling on its routes. This represents a slight increase of around 2,000 travellers compared to the same period in 2024.

June saw the clearest increase in traffic, with passenger numbers rising by 4.5 per cent to a total of 254,000. The number of passenger vehicles also increased by 3.6 per cent to 75,500 for the month. In July, a marginal decrease in travel was noted, but the combined figure for the two summer months was up 0.3 per cent compared to the previous year.

For the year-to-date, from January to July, approximately 1.11 million passengers travelled with the company, an increase of two per cent compared to the same period last year. Passenger vehicle numbers amounted to 341,000, an increase of 1.4 per cent.

Adam Jacobsson, the company's Sales and Marketing Manager, stated that summer travel has been at a steady level and that demand has held up over time. Håkan Johansson, CEO of Destination Gotland, added that while there was a small decrease in July, the figures indicate that Gotland is increasing in attractiveness as a travel destination outside of the traditional peak season.
