Production begins on environmentally friendly Viking Line ferry

Baird Maritime

STX Finland Oy's Turku Shipyard commenced production on September 28 of an environmentally friendly, new-generation cruise ferry to be built for Viking Line.

After completion, the new Viking Line cruise ferry (NB 1376) is expected to be the most environmentally friendly cruise ferry ever built. It is fuelled with liquefied natural gas (LNG), discharge and pollution into the sea have been eliminated, and atmospheric emissions are significantly lower than those of any other cruise ferry in the world.

The 214-metre long vessel is scheduled for delivery in the beginning of 2013. For Turku, the project will bring approximately 2,600 man-years of labour.
