New Zealand shipbuilding company Stark Bros are well into the construction of their latest 16.8-metre steel fishing trawler.
The vessel is currently under construction in their Lyttelton shipbuilding facility and due for launching in the second quarter of 2011.
This project follows on from a string of new vessels launched from the Stark Bros yard: 'Frontier' in August 2004, 'Jubilee' in January 2008 and 'Nessie J' in March 2009.
The owner of the vessel will be New Zealand company, Ocean Fisheries.
The vessel will be fitted out with a Hundested Marine Gear CPG-32 9.05:1 gearbox with a Hundested Variable Pitch 1800mm diameter Propeller, coupled to a fuel efficient SCANIA DI12 59M 261kW at 1800rpm. The vessel is to be commissioned and operated on 100 percent BioDiesel supplied from BioDiesel New Zealand.
The vessel will be capable within a wide range of fishing areas, usually fishing traditional inshore fishing grounds within 160 kilometres of Lyttelton in New Zealand. Onboard mechanised handling systems will allow the skipper and two crew to handle high volumes of fish, while also maintaining the ability to operate with smaller quantities of traditionally higher value species.
