Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten and Next Generation Shipyards have signed a construction contract for a new fast ferry to operate between Ameland and Holwert in the Netherlands.
The new ferry will have space for 75 passengers and was designed to meet the growing demand and accessibility pressures of Wadden Island.
Thanks to a draught of only 80 centimetres, the flexibility of the service will be increased dramatically, especially at lower water levels.
"The vessel is equipped with a new type of high-efficiency waterjet, which, in combination with the efficient ship design, ensures lower fuel consumption," said Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten.
For the comfort of the passengers, more luggage space has been created, both at the rear of the ship and under the seats. In addition, USB-C ports have been placed in all the seats, so that travelers can charge their devices during the crossing, and the ship has facilities for the disabled.
The new Wadden ferry will be delivered to Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten before the end of 2025 and the new ship is expected to enter service in early 2026.
