Russian transport operator Neva Travel will open one of two new ferry routes within the city of Saint Petersburg one week earlier that initially announced, the company confirmed earlier this week.
Neva Travel said favourable weather conditions have led to the decision to re-schedule the launch of the route between Saint Petersburg and the town of Kronstadt to Saturday, April 19.
This route, as well as the Saint Petersburg-Peterhof Palace route, will be served by Project 04580 high-speed catamarans, which may be operated as both commuter ferries and tourist shuttles.
The Saint Petersburg-Peterhof route will open as scheduled on April 26.
The Project 04580 catamarans' low height will enable them to safely pass underneath bridges while the configuration of the hull will generate only minimal wake. The design also means existing jetty infrastructure need not undergo additional modifications just to accommodate the vessels.
The Project 04580 catamarans are being operated by Neva Travel on behalf of State Transport Leasing Company.
