The Russian government, through the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transportation (Rosmorrechflot), will expand the existing route network taken by high-speed passenger ferries along the Volga River.
The expanded network will include stops at and departures from Rybinsk and Gorodets beginning this year.
In line with the expansion, the process for providing subsidies to high-speed passenger vessel operators in the region will also be optimised.
The Russian government, through the Ministry of Transport, has been subdising passenger vessel operations on the Volga since 2024, when three different transport companies from the Nizhny Novgorod region, Tatarstan and Chuvashia received state support.
The subsidies and the expansion of the route network are part of the federal government's Rechnyye Magistrali ("River Highways") project, which was formally launched by the Ministry of Transport in October 2023.
Other activities under the project include construction and upgrades of inland port infrastructure and establishment of an electronic ticketing system.
