Passenger volumes on day-long picnic cruises between Naantali and Långnäs rose by 23 per cent during the summer season compared with the previous year, according to Finnish ferry operator Finnlines.
Total passenger figures from June to August 2026 remained stable against the previous year, with expansion recorded among young adults aged 18 to 24 and travellers over 55.
“Summer is a busy travel season for us, and one particularly interesting trend is the growth in the number of couples and larger groups of ten or more travellers,” said Head of Passenger Services Marco Palmu.
He added, “We are seeing signs that calm and unhurried travel appeals to an increasing number of passengers across different age groups.”
Across other routes, Finnish and German groups travelling between Helsinki and Travemünde increased by 13 per cent and six per cent respectively, while evening and night departures on the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär line also recorded higher passenger volumes.
Along the Malmö–Travemünde corridor, German group bookings rose by 17 per cent alongside a seven per cent increase in transported bicycles, while Polish group bookings almost tripled between Malmö and Świnoujście.
The Ro-Pax vessel Finnsirius, which entered service on September 2023, reached its three-year operational mark having carried more than 638,000 passengers and professional drivers.
During its first three years in service, the ship transported approximately 146,000 passenger cars, coaches, motorcycles and bicycles, alongside 18,000 pets representing 159 nationalities on the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär route.
