Danish ferry operator DFDS reported a 3.2 per cent decrease in total ferry freight volumes for July compared to the same month last year, falling to 3.5 million lane metres.
Freight activity slowed across most corridors, though volume growth continued on the Egypt route and Strait of Gibraltar operations performed above 2025 levels.
North Sea volumes dipped slightly below the previous year as lower shipments out of Scandinavia offset higher transport between the continent and the UK.
Meanwhile, English Channel freight volumes fell alongside lower overall market activity, and Mediterranean freight decreased due to a general market slowdown and reduced capacity on specific routes.
Over the last 12 months, total transported freight lane metres rose 0.3 per cent to 41.8 million, although adjusted for route changes, freight volumes decreased by 0.5 per cent.
Passenger numbers in July fell 1.6 per cent year-on-year to 752,000 travellers, primarily driven by lower traffic across the Strait of Gibraltar.
For the last 12 months, passenger volumes fell 15 per cent to five million passengers, which represented a 5.1 per cent decline when adjusted for route changes.
