Police have arrested a 29-year-old male for allegedly attempting to climb on board a cruise ship using its mooring ropes at a cruise terminal in Sydney, Australia, over the weekend.
The New South Wales Police Force took the unnamed individual into custody following the incident, which occurred at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in The Rocks suburb of Sydney at around 15:00 local time on Saturday, May 17.
Video of the boarding attempt shows the individual dangling from the ropes that lead up to the cruise ship, identified as the 108,000GT Carnival Adventure.
The man was later lowered into a waiting NSW Police boat and taken to a local station. He has since been charged with offences including entering a cleared zone when not screened and cleared and entering land-side and water-side restricted zones when not authorised.
The man is currently out on conditional bail but is scheduled for an appearance at Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on June 11. If found guilty, he could face imprisonment or be obligated to pay significant fines.
Local authorities did not provide details on the individual's motive for undertaking the hazardous boarding attempt.
