Holland America Line has announced that parent Carnival Corporation would move P&O Cruises’ Arcadia to its fleet in 2029, bringing its total to 12 ships and increasing capacity by more than 2,000 guests.
The company said the additional capacity would give it greater flexibility for global deployment.
Arcadia will undergo upgrades through Holland America Line’s multi-year fleet transformation programme. The company said the ship’s venues and features would be determined in the coming months.
The programme is intended to introduce new venues, restaurants and staterooms across more of the fleet.
Holland America Line president Beth Bodensteiner linked the transfer to the company’s wider fleet plans: “It supports our near-term growth while fitting alongside the company's broader approach to modernization and future fleet expansion, including the thoughtful consideration of newbuilds.”
Arcadia shares the same cruise ship design platform with Oosterdam, Noordam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam.
She entered service in 2005 and currently has capacity for 2,094 guests, with a crew complement of 866. Her current home port is Southampton.
In line with Carnival's broader fleet realignment, P&O Cruises will also receive the 3,000-passenger Queen Anne from sister brand Cunard in 2029.
