Singapore-based Strategic Marine recently handed over a new catamaran crewboat to an undisclosed customer in Japan.

The vessel will be operated in support of Japan's growing offshore wind industry. Key features include a high-performance hull developed by marine engineering firm BMT, active ride control, and an active fender system for safer, more efficient technician transfers to offshore wind turbines.

The crewboat has all-aluminium construction, an LOA of 27 metres, a moulded beam of 8.9 metres, a design draught of 1.5 metres, a deadweight of 35, and a forward deck with a total area of 81.7 square metres for transporting assorted cargo. Two main engines driving fixed-pitch propellers will deliver a speed of 24 knots at 85 per cent MCR.

Space is available for three crewmembers and 24 technicians. The accommodation includes four two-berth cabins and one single-berth cabin.

The crewboat also has a knuckle boom crane on the forward deck and fuel oil, freshwater and black/grey water capacities of 35,000 litres, 3,500 litres and 2,500 litres, respectively.
