Malaysian offshore vessel operator Centus Marine has taken delivery of a new fast crewboat built by Singapore-based Strategic Marine.
The 42-metre Centus Alesha is the second hybrid crewboat to be built by Strategic Marine for the same owner. Both vessels belong to a crewboat series that Strategic Marine introduced in 2023.
The crewboat's design was developed in collaboration with Australian naval architecture firm Southerly Designs to offer expanded operating capabilities, reduced emissions, and fuel efficiency.
The vessel has been specifically designed to improve efficiency and sustainability in offshore operations, offering significant advantages in crew transfer to oil platforms.
There is business class seating for 70 rig crew – configured for up to 100 rig crew – plus space for 16 crewmembers in nine cabins. The interior spaces also include one medical room/office.
Three 1,081kW engines drive fixed-pitch propellers to deliver a maximum speed of 28.5 knots and a service speed of 27 knots. The fuel consumption at service speed is approximately 716 litres per hour.
The crewboat has been designed for and fitted with a gyrostabiliser in the hull, which not only increases mass in the vessel's centre of gravity, but also decreases the rolling motion of the vessel by as much as 80 per cent.
The gyrostabiliser will enable far safer rig crew transfers to oil platforms in less favourable conditions.
