Songa semi-submersible rigs named

Valentine Watkins

Norwegian marine services provider Songa Offshore has recently held a naming ceremony for four semi-submersible rigs at a Daewoo Shipyard (DSME).

DSME and Songa Offshore signed the contracts for the construction of the rigs in late-2011 and mid-2012.

The semi-submersible rigs are able to drill down to a maximum of 8,500 metres in water up to 500 metres deep. The rigs are also designed to operate in the often-rough weather and intense cold of the North Sea.

Following delivery, the four rigs will commence drilling work off the Norwegian Coast and in the North Sea. Statoil will operate the rigs.
