Rolls-Royce secures offshore orders

Valentine Watkins

Rolls-Royce has announced orders from a variety of international customers for both its offshore ship designs and equipment. The orders are worth more than £60 million (US$101 million).

The contracts include five Rolls-Royce UT Design vessels, as well as propulsion equipment packages for a range of research and seismic survey vessels.

The five ships ordered include two UT717 CDX platform supply vessels (PSVs) for Norwegian customer Island Offshore, and two larger UT755 PSVs for Aberdeen-based Fletcher Shipping.

The fifth Rolls-Royce vessel is based on the company's UT782 WP concept – an advanced design for a large anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel for Canadian shipowner Secunda Canada.

According to Rolls-Royce, this is the first order for a wave piercing design in the Americas and the vessel's hull has been optimised for the harsh North Atlantic conditions.

Rounding out the order announcements, a range of Rolls-Royce propulsion equipment will feature on three vessels for China Oilfield Services (COSL).

Two deep-sea research vessels and one seismic vessel will feature Rolls-Royce engines, thrusters and control systems. The vessels have been designed by Norwegian company Skipsteknisk and will be built at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in China.
