DEME to install foundations at Germany's Nordlicht offshore wind farms

Baird Maritime

DEME has been awarded two contracts for the transport and installation of 112 foundations at the Nordlicht I and II offshore wind farms in Germany.

Additionally, DEME also secured the contract for the scour protection at both wind farms.

Several vessels will be deployed including DEME’s offshore installation vessel Orion, a jackup vessel, and a fallpipe vessel for the scour protection.

The Nordlicht wind park zone is located 85 kilometres north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea and consists of two separate sites: Nordlicht I with a capacity of 980 MW and Nordlicht II with 630 MW.

Pending a final investment decision, expected in 2025, offshore construction for Nordlicht I and II is anticipated to begin in 2026, with full operational status scheduled for 2028.

Vattenfall develops the sites and has now awarded several contracts for the construction of both wind farms. Jan De Nul had earlier won the contract to install inter-array cables that transmit electricity between offshore wind turbines.

Jan De Nul will install 196 kilometres of cables and ensure their connection to 112 wind turbines.
