DEME has finished installing all 68 monopiles and transition pieces at Nordlicht I, the Vattenfall-operated offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
Sea Installer has installed the final transition piece, completing DEME's first foundation installation phase at the Nordlicht cluster. Vattenfall said the foundation works were finished ahead of schedule.
The offshore scope was divided among four DEME vessels. The fallpipe vessels Flintstone and Yellowstone began scour protection works in April, while Orion installed the first monopile on July 1 and completed the monopile campaign at the end of September.
Sea Installer began transition piece installation in August.
The next phase, covering 44 foundations at Nordlicht II, is scheduled to start in the summer of 2027. DEME's contracts, awarded in January 2025, cover the transport and installation of 112 foundations across both wind farms, as well as scour protection at both sites.
The monopiles were manufactured by EEW Special Pipe Constructions and measure up to 80.5 metres long and weigh up to 1,290 tonnes each. CS WIND Offshore built the 23.7-metre-high transition pieces, each of which weighs approximately 362 tonnes.
The Nordlicht cluster is located approximately 85 kilometres north of Borkum. Nordlicht I will have an installed capacity of around 980 MW from 68 turbines while Nordlicht II will have around 630 MW from 44 turbines.
Vattenfall expects the cluster to generate approximately six TWh of electricity each year. It is scheduled to deliver first power in 2028, with full commissioning in 2029.
