SBM Offshore USA has entered into an agreement with BP Exploration and Production (BP) for the wet tow and installation of the Kaskida semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU).
The FPU will be installed in the Kaskida field, a greenfield Paleogene development located approximately 250 miles (400 kilometres) southwest of New Orleans, in the Keathley Canyon area in the deepwater US Gulf.
Comprising a single topside module supported by a four-column semi-submersible hull, the Kaskida FPU will be supported by subsea production wells located in a water depth of approximately 6,000 feet (1,800 metres).
The FPU will have the capacity to produce 80,000 barrels of crude oil per day from six wells in the first phase of development.
Owned 100 per cent by BP, the Kaskida field has discovered recoverable resources currently estimated at around 275 million barrels of oil equivalent from the initial phase. Additional wells could be drilled in future phases, subject to further evaluation.
