A Norwegian operator has taken delivery of a walk-to-work vessel while construction is ongoing on new installation vessels two cable layers ordered by customers in Europe and the Far East.
Norwegian shipyard Ulstein Verft has commenced final outfitting on Nexans Electra, a new cable laying vessel (CLV) ordered by Nexans.
Nexans Electra's hull arrived at Ulstein Verft on Saturday, July 5, following completion at the facilities of Polish shipbuilder Crist.
Offshore services company DEME announced this week the launch of its second new wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), Norse Energi, at the Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore shipyard. The vessel has now entered its final construction phase.
The vessel was designed by GustoMSC and is engineered to install turbines with rotor diameters over 300 metres and XXL monopiles of up to 3,000 tons, in water depths of up to 70 metres.
Norse Energi is a sister vessel to Norse Wind. The company expects Norse Wind to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2025, with Norse Energi following in early 2026.
Vard Shipyards Romania has launched a new hybrid cable laying and construction vessel ordered by Japan's Toyo Construction.
The vessel was designed by Vard Design in compliance with ClassNK rules. It will be operated primarily in support of customers in the Japanese offshore wind market.
Vard Shipyards Romania has cut the first steel to be used for building a new hybrid offshore construction vessel ordered by Norwegian operator Island Offshore.
The contract between Island Offshore and Vard also includes options for up to two additional vessels, which are designated as "ocean energy construction vessels" (OECVs).
Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS), through subsidiary IWS Fleet, has taken delivery of its fifth commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) IWS Moonwalker from the China Merchants Industry Holdings shipyard. The vessel was delivered at its original yard price of approximately €52.5 million and is currently en route to Europe.
The IWS Moonwalker is the fifth in a series of six identical sister vessels purpose-built to provide services to offshore wind farms. The final vessel in the series is also scheduled for delivery in 2025.
